Cuil ..
Cuil pronounced as "Cool" means Knowledge is an old Irish word. It was launched in late July 2008 which claims to have larger index than any other search engines. It is available in English, French , German , Italian , Portugese , Spanish and Turkish.
It claims it searches three times as Google and ten times as Microsoft( Source : Click Here). <----I Strongly DONT agree on this with my practical search experience.
I thought rather than re-writing boring stuffs which is available in the net , it would be worth enough to compare and present the practical difference between Google and Cuil.
To compare them I searched the keyword "Vellore" ( a small city in Tamil Nadu) in both of them. Please check the screen shot of the result page

Design:
I bet Cuil stays far better than Google in many aspects. What I do like most about it the search results are displayed in Columns wise rather than Row wise so that it avoids empty space as much as it could. It has tabs with in the webpage itself as like modern web browser which makes the user to navigate across different search alternatives. Instead of displaying images in the front it associates images with the website which is good one. I like the background color which is black and of course its people's opinion and choice.
Speed:
Eventhough Cuil claims it has more indexing, I find Google is much much faster than any other search engines with my various testing results. For instance, for the search Keyword "Vellore" the response time for Google is 0.23 seconds and since Cuil doesn't reveal its speed ,I tested with third party performance testing tool and found the response time for the same is 0.47 which is almost double than Google.
Search Content:
Its the most important feature for any search engine as the users are heavily dependent on the fact search results.
The number of search results thrown is actually depends on the search keyword . For the search "Vellore" Google returned 5,010,000 pages Cuil returned 23,728 pages only and for the search "Karthik" Google returned 2,120,000 pages only and Cuil returned 6,822,795 pages but I don’t think any user will check more than first 20-40 pages so its important for the search crawl engines to decide what it should put in the first few pages.
Google ranks the site and filters based on the popularity and number of website hits. Cuil says it doesn’t look for the number of hits but the content of the website.
The best part of Cuil is "Explore by Category" which displays relevant search topics. If you move your mouse cursor over the category it will open a short note which provides additional information
For the search Vellore it provides "Time line for Vellore" in a small scrollable window which provides information about the Vellore since from 400 BC till this date .
In the beginning Cuil was heavily blamed for irrelevant search results and inappropriate content. Now it is providing an option to filter adult sites.
The best part about Google is Images,Video,Maps,Booking etc is integrated into a single place where as in Cuil you can just search websites alone. You can’t search videos or Images in Cuil which is one of the major drawbacks for Cuil.
So both Google and Cuil have its own pros and cons. If you are the one who is plainly searching for data I'd suggest Cuil and if not and you are looking for Videos, Images, Maps then it’s better to go with Google.
Bing........
Microsoft launched its new search engine Bing
Beta version on Jun 05 2009. As its a Beta version , I hope it wouldn’t have delivered all of if its features so it wont be appropriate to compare with the giant Google who is on the market since many years.
The tag lines for the Bing are
"Bing is decision engine, not search engine"
"We will deliver answers , not WebPages"
It’s always been difficult for me to watch videos while surfing at office since its forbidden. It’s a big relief for me now as I can preview the videos in Bing itself rather than watching them by logging in third party site. I bet this feature will make a traffic jam in Bing.
Bing is aimed at online shoppers and will initially focus on helping people make buying decisions, plan trips, research health matters, or find local businesses.
The most important factor for Bing is its a product from Microsoft and it knows all the techniques to market even a donkey by showing them as a horse.
PS : The best part is I googled the features of Cuil and Bing . Google Rocks!
